Campervan Firm Hit by Major Blaze as 60 Firefighters Battle Flames in Llandudno Junction

A devastating fire broke out at the Hilltop Campers site in Llandudno Junction late Thursday night, causing significant damage to machinery and vehicles, including a converted ambulance and an American RV. The blaze, which broke out at around 10 p.m., prompted a large-scale emergency response, with over 60 firefighters from across North Wales working tirelessly to contain the flames.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) was alerted at 10:02 p.m. on Thursday, dispatching six fire engines to the scene, with crews from Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Conwy, Abergele, and Wrexham. Firefighters worked through the night, battling the intense flames for nearly five hours before the situation was brought under control at around 3:10 a.m. on Friday.

The fire, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, was confined to the property, with no damage to any surrounding buildings. Crews used a variety of firefighting techniques, including multiple hosereel jets, main jets, and a water hydrant. Four breathing apparatus were also deployed to protect the firefighters from smoke and heat. The fire’s intensity raised concerns over safety, with police officers on the scene ensuring that bystanders were kept at a safe distance, particularly due to the risk posed by canisters at the burning commercial unit.

Phil, a spokesperson for Hilltop Campers, revealed that although several vehicles were damaged, including his personal American RV and a converted ambulance, the damage was mostly confined to machinery and other items within the unit. “It could have been worse,” he remarked, highlighting that the prompt response from the fire service likely prevented further destruction.

Despite the scale of the fire, no one was injured during the incident, and the damage was limited to the commercial site itself. The fire at Hilltop Campers comes on the heels of a similar blaze in the area. Last December, flames engulfed a nearby Asda store in Llandudno Junction, causing extensive damage to the building. The store has remained closed since the fire, and although Asda has confirmed that it will eventually reopen, no specific date has been set.

The devastating fire at Hilltop Campers serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by local businesses and the importance of emergency preparedness. With the fire now under control, the focus will shift to assessing the full extent of the damage and supporting the recovery efforts for Hilltop Campers and the surrounding community.
