Plans for a new campsite in Jurby East, located in the north of the Isle of Man, have received unanimous approval from the planning committee, despite objections from local residents.
Development Details:
Accommodation Capacity: The campsite is designed to host up to 80 guests, providing facilities for 15 pitched tents, 10 motorhomes, and three shepherd-style huts.
Amenities: The site will feature shower and toilet facilities, a reception office, and designated parking areas to enhance visitor experience.
Support and Objectives:
Visit Isle of Man has endorsed the project as part of its strategic initiative to develop 500 new units of distinctive, contemporary, and eco-friendly non-serviced accommodation over the next decade.
Community Concerns:
Despite the project’s approval, some neighboring residents have expressed concerns regarding potential increases in traffic, noise, and disturbances. Additionally, there are apprehensions about the site’s proximity to proposed future expansions of the Jurby airfield runway, which could impact property values and quality of life.
Planning Committee’s Decision:
After conducting a site visit and reviewing the proposal, the planning committee unanimously approved the application, attaching several conditions to address community concerns. No right of appeal was granted to any party.
This development is anticipated to boost local tourism by offering diverse accommodation options for visitors seeking outdoor experiences in the Isle of Man.
